 traditional American Quaker schoolgirl sampler features the extremely rare naming of "KINGWOOD SCHOOL" NJ on it. Though the names of Quaker Schools are not uncommon, they are usually from Pennsylvania Quaker schools.....this is only the second i have ever seen naming this early Hunterdon County New Jersey School. kingwood Township was first established in 1746 created from bethlehem Township and finally incorporated in 1798. Our Quaker schoolgirl Rebecca Bonham was the daughter of Amos and Rebecca Bonham born 1795 in Locktown, Hunterdon County, NJ; and was 14 years old when she stitched her classic horizontal Quaker format sampler (appx 10 x 18); which features the recognizable Quaker block alphabet, and includes a charming pair of Quaker inverted acorns.
