Important folk art watercolor depicting the home of Mahlon Preston (1781-1854) in West Grove, Chester County Pennsylvania. Mahlon Preston and his home was part of the underground railroad. The painting was executed by Frederick Langenheim in 1841 who would paint people's homes in exchange for boarding. The Langenheims were known for photography later on, but did a few of these incredible folk art paintings. Also included with the painting is a old photograph of the image along with a great write up explaining who all the piece depicted in the painting represent. They were all real people associated with the home at the time of the painting. It comes framed under glass with the frame measuring about 14.25" x 9.75" . Just a wonderful historic and early S.E.Pennsylvania piece of history. The 2nd painting mentioned of the Thomas home mentioned has not been located at this time only the Mahlon Prestons house as shown.
